Race: Salt Lake Marathon (26.2 Miles) 03:20:03
Total Distance
26.20

This is what I wrote after running:

Felt pretty good till around 17. Held back at first, but did get caught up in it and paid for it later. Obviously, mileage (lack of) was a major factor for last 1/3 of race. Liked the race. Very happy it is over.

Now some more comments looking back:

I was very worried about this marathon. It was the first after the stroke. I had trained pretty good up to April, but then I had the set back which really messed up my training and was pretty much like starting over again. So I decided to do the race as a run and just feel how it went.

Here is a note I wrote under this day:

Goal for St. George 2:40 and a strong finish. That's a big PR - Can I do it 2 years, 2 marathons, and a stroke since a 2:55? YES!

Well I got close. I see some major things I can work on now for next year. I really will need to be smart about training and goals for 2007 St. George.

Ran in the evening with the club - fun -

Getting tired already this week.

Stretched planned 8 to 8.5 because wanted to run less this afternoon. But too wiped out to run. Times for runs this week slumping. Read a book by Henderson "25 Years of Running Tips".

A note I wrote myself at the end of this day: Obviously I am taking it too hard right now and need rest. But how do you balance recovery and preparation for the next marathon?

In West Canyon at Snow Canyon - beautiful and cooler run. Felt okay - but slow. I am glad for the day off tomorrow and may cut back next week even more than planned.

decided not to do run w/ hills even though it was only just 6. So ran just 3 w/ team.

I am looking forward to this rest week.

When you start writing miles, a 0 sure looks bad (maybe that's why many experts say don't count miles, but I still like to). I need the rest though. Body feels better, but both achilles - especially right- hurt.
