AM - 11.4 Wet Sandy Trail.  Steve and I went up to the Wet Sandy Trailhead, just below Oak Grove.  I had never run this trail, but I wanted/needed one more trail fix before marathon training kicks in heavy and XC takes away all my weekends.  The first 5 of this trail was awesome!  Crossed streams, in ponderosa forest, fern covered meadows as we skirted the base of Pine Valley at 7000 ft.  But then the trail just went dead; we hacked around for awhile and tried to find it again, but it was very vague and just crashed through scrub oak and manzanita.  I had hoped (and thought) that it worked its way up to the top of the mountain and connected up with the Summit Trail (near the Whipple Trail), but if that is the case we missed it/lost it/or didn't go far enough.  So after getting torn up, we just turned and brought it back.  The streams were so nice and cold and tasted great.  Not really as much mileage as I wanted, but it was 3 hours and really neat until where we turned around - even the rattlesnake I almost stepped on (beautiful gold and tan colors highlighting the diamondback pattern).  (Landreth 938.4)

End to a very chill week.  I feel a bit better about things than last weekend and am ready to get to it next week.

Sounds like a beautiful run. You even make the near death experience of the rattlesnake sound pleasant :)...

Dave, It is good to hear that you are feeling good about things again. You have certainly set a very high standard for yourself. I have been learning this past few months that I need to learn to enjoy the moment even when I am not accomplishing what I had hoped for. I had a very unrealistic idea that each time I had a race it was going to be a PR. It works for a while then reality hit me in the face!

Each race is becoming more enjoyable to me now. Yesterday could have been a killer to my ego and training. I took a moment and made the decision that this has got to be fun or there is no reason to do it.

In my pain and disgust of how my body felt yesterday I had some fun. High and low fiving anybody that was willing, laughing and joking with those watching....they could not see that pain I was in and that is just fine!

You are a great mentor for me and I hope to see your continued accomplishments, if I could only have a small portion of the success you have had to this point I would be thrilled.

KEEP ON TRUCKING! (RUNNING)

Sounds like it was a good run. I almost regret not going. Almost.

AH. The beauty of the high desert. I'm jealous of the run, not the rattlesnake.

David, Great run yesterday!

Little rough in the middle - but great for our "BUSHWACKING" Skills. ;-}

We'll have to get back up there after our marathon training is done and before the snow comes. I really want to get up on the top and check out more of the trails up there.
