AM - 20 Border.  Ran from Clyde's out through the Fields almost to the border at Little Black Mt.  Had to go pretty early, but at least there was no rush today.  Which was lucky, because we all felt a bit off today.  (Triumph 615.25)

Week was solid.  And I got my b-day wish - a boys XC victory over Mt. View (way to go guys you stepped up huge!).

Goals for next week:  Keep the hip feeling healthy, run a solid half Saturday (We are running our own version of the old Trails 1/2 from Gunlock down.  So it might not exactly be a true race, but hopefully Clyde and I can push each other a bit to get a good workout.)

Way to go with those kids today Dave, that was awesome. Keenan Hart asked me at the start who was gonna win it, and you guys were my pick. Awesome job.

Nice workout. Again what a strong determined runner you are.

The race was crazy - Mt. View is absolutely amazing and I am really in awe that we beat them somehow. After about 1K Corey established himself in the lead of the pack with our top three, Mt. View's 7, Cedar kid, 3 CV kids, followed by my next 3. After 2K Corey started pulling my crew away and from 2500 on the three of them just ate up the course. They established a very strong lead by 4K and were running right together - Trevor had taken the lead by now, but Corey and Tyson were right on his shoulder. Further back Cedar was pulling along the Mt. View and trying to hold them off. CV boys were running solid and looking to break up a couple Mt. View 4 and 5 kids. And then my next three were hanging in 12th'ish trying to seal the deal. We looked solid until Mt. View swarmed Cedar and took over 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th (or something) and then it was getting very tight. The top three hammered through to win in pretty dominating fashion with Trevor up front, followed within a second or two by Tyson and about 5 seconds back Corey - 14:30 to win, but it was 2.8 course (makes me mad that they can't measure a stinking 3 mile course). Then the Mt. View crew came rolling in with like a 10 second spread. But digging to finish hard were my 4,5,6 at 12, 14 and 16 to hold Mt. View off by two points. We have a lot of work to do - obviously the top 3 have to keep those spots secure and the next 3 have to close that gap up significantly, but it sure was fun to get the win. (JV boys won also, by two points, which was very impressive over a program like Mt. View - and JV girls were only 4 points off Mt. View!)

I had goose bumps reading the article in the Spectrum this morning. Good job man!

It was fun to watch the race. I was getting all worked up yelling at the 4,5, 6 boys to move up and not get passed. It was also fun to see how much your team likes you. Can you imagine us having done anything like that(bday song) for coach Comeford?

Dave,

Well it looks like I might not see you until October with our weird schedule this year. Great job with your guys. You know you are doing well when you can beat a team that puts 5 in the top 9. I know that I am in no position to give you advice, but just continue to learn from last year. Pick and choose the races where you let the guys loose and keep focused on October 20th. Your 4-6 will improve and close that gap. I am hoping the same will happen with my 4-6. Good luck.

Thanks guys

Greg, that is totally the plan. Race hard at Murray, and Nebo and keep them controlled on everything else.

James, I don't think we would have been huddled around Coach jumping and yelling!

Congrats on the team win Coach! Like Clyde I was excited to read about it this morning in the paper. I really miss those days of coaching Cross Country.

Congrats on the big win Saturday! That is so awesome! It's good to see those boys stepping up and doing what we've always known they could! Nice birthday present too!
