AM - 10.25 Washington Loop then joined James for Dogpound. Legs were a bit more tired today than yesterday. The whole run ave. was only 8:00. But that's what the legs had. (Cumulus blue 215.25)

afternoon - 6.65 Dino Tracks.  Still nice out, but starting to warm up.  Dip in the pool after was quite refreshing.  Still some residual fatigue in the legs. (191.15)

Pool Running - 10 minutes.  Earlier in afternoon, before afternoon run.  Twice as long as both other times.  Getting the hang of it.  Noticed that the faster I went, the more I stayed up on top of the water.

Don't you love these temps for running. I can't remember when we had this cool of weather at the end of May. Would you please arrange for this to remain with us through the whole summer? Thanks!! Keep up the good work Dave. You are awesome.

Dave, your a machine! young machine!

When you are pool running are you using a floatation belt? They really help to stay above the water. I use one that is made for pool running.

From dave holt on Tue, May 27, 2008 at 18:08:23

Josse, no. I've looked into it; especially because I am not really sure how to do this pool running stuff. Most said it was helpful (mostly to stay above water). But I have found that I can keep my mouth above and that's about all I need. If I happen in to some extra money I might get one, however.

You probably get twice the workout without the belt just trying to stay above the water. HEHEHEHE I would love to see that. Last year I think I really learned how to actually do the pool running thing. You treat it more like a really fast biking motion. Like you are doing an all out sprint the whole time.

You definitely work harder all around without a belt. But I found I was concentrating more on keeping my mouth above the water to breath than on my "running". With the belt, since I did not have to worry about staying afloat, I could pay more attention to my form. I could really extend my stride, much more than on the road. I made sure I stretched my legs out fully on my "front" kick. My arms were more in synch with my legs as well. From time to time I would put my face in the water and holding my breath for 20 seconds or so, then slowly breath out until I got into a rhythm. Not sure if it really helped or not but I figured it would help my cardio by doing the controlled breathing.

Without the belt though, my heartrate would go much higher. If you already have a ski vest or life jacket you could use that instead of buying a belt.

It has been awhile since he has blogged, but Ryan Woods once told me, "If God intended for us to run in the water, he would not have created the dog paddle."

Dave, I would go with the arm floaties! I think the pink or purple, would look lovely!

From Wildbull on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 12:36:32

I like the pink floaties myself! They match my skin! and enhance my eyes!

Thanks Scott and Josse. No thanks Mike and Bill!
